WizPar & Me
Fate playing it’s dutiful role? A novel business romance? A match made in heaven? Possibly slight exaggerations, but my encounter with WizPar was a welcome turn of events; I was looking for an ambitious business to grow within, WizPar were looking for a fresh recruit with marketing experience – the rest, as they say, is history (well…one week old history).
I was first introduced to WizPar through a friend and, after a brief introduction to the app, I agreed to help promote their brand at a Cambridge University freshers fair alongside Tarba. We spent two days conversing with everybody and anybody who crossed our path, explaining the numerous ways WizPar would enhance student life. I soon noticed there was a palpable enthusiasm surrounding the app; the idea of providing an easy and accessible way of connecting students with news from their local community proved popular. After receiving some fascinating feedback we shut up shop, very satisfied with how WizPar was being received. Soon afterwards, my voice still hoarse from the freshers fair, I met the app’s founders, Peter Dawe and Mark Turner. Discussing all things WizPar, we soon decided we had compatible visions for the future and agreed it was a smart idea to prolong our stint together.
A few weeks later and I was sat on a train heading towards Ely to begin my first day in the WizPar office. Having never worked for a company in the tech sector I was intrigued to gain an insight into their company culture. What immediately struck me was the warmth of my new colleagues; they were exceptionally welcoming and helped me immediately feel at home. My managers went out their way to help me settle: in addition to the generous helpings of biscuits (a strong test of my pre-Christmas diet willpower) and the continuous rounds of tea, I was also treated to a structured and well thought out plan for my week ahead – it was brilliant to see what I was going to be able to get my teeth stuck into. A desk, laptop, email address, new software, and another helping of biscuits later, I was a functioning(/fattening) member of the WizPar team.
(Week one complete!)
After enjoying a thoroughly engaging and stimulating first week, I am eager to help continue the progress the WizPar team have already made. Although I have only spent a few days in the office, I have already had the pleasure of exploring various aspects of the business, including learning a host of new technical terms, talking business development, getting to grips with the technology behind the WizPar app, and participating in creative brainstorming sessions. There has been a lot to take in, but the learning process has been fascinating and I cannot wait to continue my WizPar education next week.
Overall, it has been a brilliant introduction to the world of WizPar. Exciting times lay ahead, of that I am sure!
